MBR to GPT (GUID) Partition table after clone

I have a new 3 TB drive I'm wanting to install.  I want to clone a win7 OS over to it from a 1.5 TB disk.  As I now know, windows only recognizes 2TB on the 3TB disk due to the clone OS have an MBR, master boot record.

I have tried everything in order  to make windows see the 3TB.  THIS IS NOT AN INSTALL OF AN OS.  I try using Disk Genius to convert the formatted drive to GPT which works, but when the drive gets cloned to the Win7 OS, the orignal MBR on the the OS gets written over it and it's back to a 2TB drive.

The second thing I do is to clone the OS over the the 3TB drive and then use Disk Genius to convert it to GPT.  This appears to work as now I can extend the volume to it's max capacity of 3TB, but when it tries to boot, it won't.

Some of these other partition management programs claim to do this seamlessly with no data loss, you know the one's where you get the demo version that does everything but the actual conversion, then requires you to pay 50 bucks for the complete program (Premium).  I'm skeptical.  Anyone had success with changing over an existing MBR to GPT without data loss?

Thanks
