Diseqc 1.1

Long time no see...

I am interested in PCI (express or not) satellite cards. I used to own an AzBox Ultra (sold it).
Current receiver is DR HD F15. I do own a Triax multifeed disc with a 8 LNB via an EMP 8:1 diseqc switch.

I am a newbie in sat pci cards. I am ready to buy a used Prof 7301. My concern is mostly about the diseqc 1.1 protocoll.
Will this card be able to co-operate and tune through diseqc 1.1? in my case with 8 LNB, or even 16 LNB?
I dont like diseqc 1.2, because of the delay. Thus I 'd prefer a "clean" diseqc 1.1 order.

Any other suggestions for quality cards that operate in diseqc 1.1?
And as a rule, linux OS is more friendly with diseqc 1.1, than Win7 64bit I intend to use?

Thank you all, in advance, for the valuable information you will share.

SDRSHARP constellation plugin?

$

Does anyone know if there is a plugin for SDRSHARP that will show the constellation of a signal at the frequency marker?

When you go over the spectrum of a satellite using SDRSHARP, there can be quite a few good potential signals to be data or radio stations and it takes me awhile to go through each of those in my list with my TBS tuner box to see if there are locks.

I figure if there is a plugin that shows the constellation, you know really quickly if that signal has a modulation the TBS tuner box supports.

I am running Windows 7 and have ordered a external USB tuner. For anyone running Windows, please help.

What media player do you use to play 4.2.2 video?

Did you have to download video codexcs with it? Is so, where can the codecs?

I have heard there are three different players that can handle 4.2.2 video, just wondering which one you get the best results from.

thanks in advance for any help

gksu no longer in linux repos

$

I do not know if anyone knows it but gksu has been depreaciated and dropped pretty much in all newer linux distro repos's and in favor of pkexec that uses PolicyKit. So if you want to run a graphical program with pkexec you have to make manually make it compliant if the program is not compliant.

I run into this situation with a fresh install of mint19 and and new arch pi image.

It is not recommended to run graphical programs as root with the sudo command:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/270006/why-should-users-never-use-normal-sudo-to-start-graphical-applications

# gksu now not in repo now doing a search:

Code:
 $ pacman -Ss gksu
$

# If you try to run pkexec with your graphical program and it is not compliant you will get
# a similar error like below when I try to run "pkexec pluma"

Code:
 $ pkexec pluma
Cannot open display:
Run '/usr/bin/pluma --help' to see a full list of available command line options.
$

# Fix is to create a new file in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ called:

Code:
org.freedesktop.policykit.pkexec.policy

# Here I created the file with the nano editor to add the program pluma.
# In each instance in the text below where pluma (pluma only) occurs substitute
# pluma for the program you want to run with pkexec.

Code:

$ sudo nano /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.policykit.pkexec.policy

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE policyconfig PUBLIC
 "-//freedesktop//DTD PolicyKit Policy Configuration 1.0//EN"
 "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/PolicyKit/1/policyconfig.dtd">
<policyconfig>

  <action id="org.freedesktop.policykit.pkexec.run-pluma">
    <description>Run Pluma</description>
    <message>Authentication is required to run Pluma</message>
    <defaults>
      <allow_any>no</allow_any>
      <allow_inactive>no</allow_inactive>
      <allow_active>auth_admin_keep</allow_active>
    </defaults>
    <annotate key="org.freedesktop.policykit.exec.path">/usr/bin/pluma</annotate>
    <annotate key="org.freedesktop.policykit.exec.allow_gui">TRUE</annotate>
  </action>

</policyconfig>

# Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect. After reboot run the pkexec command
# with the program you are trying to open. Now you can see pluma opened in the terminal.
# The warning are normal here as I do not have the spell plugin loaded.

Code:
 $ pkexec pluma

(pluma:598): libpeas-WARNING **: 19:08:54.764: Failed to load module 'spell': /usr/lib/pluma/plugins/libspell.so: undefined symbol: enchant_dict_add_to_pwl

(pluma:598): libpeas-WARNING **: 19:08:54.765: Error loading plugin 'spell'

If you want to add another program so you can use pkexec to run it, add it to the same file:

Code:
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.policykit.pkexec.policy

It needs to be between the <policyconfig> and  </policyconfig> lines in the file:

Code:
<policyconfig>

<action id="your first program you set up">
.
.
.
</action>

<action id="your new program you want to set up">
.
.
.
</action>

</policyconfig>

You can also add a .desktop file to click on so you do not have to open up a terminal to execute.

I attached a copy of the file where I added 3 programs.

Help with New Hard Drive with a MAC

$

Hi,

I have no experience with using a MAC.

I have a customer that has a New Hard Drive and I told him that he will need to format it to NTFS and then it will work great with his 9000i Linkbox.

I know all of the steps using a Windows OS on a PC and supplied that to him, but apparently, that is no help at all, as the steps must be a lot different.

Did some searching on the internet, but not really finding the answer yet.

If anyone can help, we both would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Rick

TBS 5927 Hardware blind scan in linux .. utility?

$

Hi,

First time posting here! Just getting back into this hobby after a number of years.

I have a TBS 5927 and I think it supports hardware blind scan, is anyone aware of a utility for it? I have looked at blindscan-s2 but it seems to just be tuning through channels one at a time and you have to have a specific symbol rate you're looking for it seems.

Does anyone know of a simple app for USALS motor besides xdipo? I may try out writing one if I can't find one (and one for hardware blind scan), I see that there is the linuxdvb python module (https://pypi.org/project/linuxdvb/) so that might speed things up significantly while I learn more about v4l and the TBS driver.

I am planning on trying out updateDVB, just dealing with some issues getting it going .. To start with I couldn't put it on my bare metal linux box because it needs zfs and the spl kernel module seems to be broken on 4.18 (I'm running debian sid with 4.17.3). So I brought up a debian stretch VM and did a usb passthrough with qemu-system-x86_64 with kvm enabled, the passthrough to a VM seems to work ok (works with tbs blindscan in windows 10 for instance) but have had some trouble so far running dvbtune in the linux VM while running the updatelee drivers and haven't yet been able to get updatedvb to scan (it is complaining also about some broken opengl stuff so that may be related too).

I'm also planning on getting crazyscan running in the windows VM and I have a 2-way splitter that passes through DC only on one port so I am going to try to tee in my RTL SDR so I can also tool around and see whats going on. I am interested in what other sort of narrowband data streams that might be found as well.

On another note one crazy idea I had lately would be a user space dvb server that would connect to the /dev/dvb/* devices and allow one or more other specially designed drivers (linux and perhaps windows) to talk to one dvb device, at least so that I'm not constantly messing around with starting up and shutting down VMs with the usb device passed through to them. It could also be handy to allow certain operations to happen simultaneously, where right now they can't because the device gets locked for one application at a time. Like potentially running multiple apps that read from the device at the same time without changing settings. Just an idea, probably a lot more work to implement than I am thinking but maybe something I might start toying around with some day and was wondering if anyone else had this same idea.

Thanks and glad to see people are still active in this hobby!

DM100

I found a DM100 at the thrift shop and bought it really, really cheap (just bragging).  I know it receives audio of all kinds especially dolby e and decodes.  It seems to be functional as it turns on and I can go through the menus. My problem is that I have no idea how to use it. I did download the manual, but am really challenged to understand it. Way too much technical terminology for me. If anyone know what setting are needed to get the dolby e audio, I would be very appreciative. Sadly, I need Dick and Jane type of help.

EBSPro Blacklist question

Hi
I'm using a EBSPro and TBS5927 USB since a few weeks and I still trying to understand this great software.

My question is : when I put a frequency in the blacklist, what is compared in the next search ?

Only the frequency (which range tolerance ?) or also the SR, Modulation, etc ??

This question because if it is only the frequency memorized in the blacklist and when I do another scan, EBSpro find another signal on the same freq but with different SR, FEC etc, I wonder if it will show it or not.

Thanks for your help

I have a stream from my AZBox Me that I can play in VLC.  I would like to be able to open this same stream with TSReader.  Is it possible to open the following in TSReader and if so what would the command line look like?

LPB 87.0°W KU Scans In As Data

$

I just scanned 87.0°W KU using my TBS6903 PCIe Card, and to my surprise it missed the LPB (11811 H 11150) MUX. So, I scanned it in manually, and to my dismay the three channels that make up the MUX scanned in as DATA! On a hunch, I changed the "Service type" from Data to Video for each channel and the channels played fine. My question are: (1) Why does the 6903 see the channels as data, and are other experiencing this problem?(2) Does it mean I have been getting some video channels scanned in as Data Channels instead of video and I'm not aware of them? All my other STBs scanned them in as Video.

Remote access to tuner

I've got a number of fixed C Band dishes at various locations for work.  Most of these sites have good internet, and I already have VPN access to the sites from my house.  Is there a good off-the-shelf solution I can use where I can drop a receiver in at the remote location and then watch/control it remotely?
