I know this is strange, but I'm asking a question about a problem I'm not having right now, which confuses me.
My issue _WAS_ that whenever I would use PotPlayer to play either live or recorded video, the audio sync would be WAY OFF. I'm not sure if it happened ALL the time, partly because more often than not I use the program without audio, but it seemed that way. With all my other player programs like VLC, MPC-HC, SMPLAYER, and a couple other players, the audio sync was perfect. PotPlayer has a menu option to adjust audio sync, but I kept forgetting to set it to save the sync after adjusting it, plus, I never was able to get it quite perfect. This had been bugging me up until and including just yesterday.
So today, having a bit of free time, I decided to adjust and save the audio sync in Potplayer. Of course, you've probably guessed, today, I have tried multiple files and live satellite sources, and the audio sync seems to be perfect with everything I've tried.
Anyway, my questions are, what would have caused the audio sync to have been off with Potplayer even though it was OK with other players, _AND_ what could have changed between yesterday and today to have fixed the problem???
I've always assumed that audio sync problems were due to a problem with the PCR PID, or perhaps not enough buffer to save whichever audio or video stream needs to be delayed to accomplish the sync, however there hasn't been any changes since yesterday relative to those things.
One thing that might possibly be related that I've posted about in the past, is that on the computer I'm using, when I run Potplayer, it takes a LONG TIME, typically more than a minute, before the program comes up, even though it comes up very fast on other computers that aren't normally used for playing video. I thought that maybe this might be causing a time issue, and thought that this might be caused by either a virus protection program or perhaps by the fact that I generally have access to the internet blocked on this computer. However I've tried running with and without internet access, and with and without the virus program running, and neither seemed to change things. HOWEVER, TODAY, I noticed that when I called up Potplayer, it came up with no delay, for pretty much the first time I can remember, so maybe there is some connection here.
One other thing that might be related is that this computer normally has a couple hard drives, and I normally keep video files on the E: drive. I've noticed that when I used Windows Explorer to browse the E: drive, that it takes a while before the file listing comes up, whereas the C: drive comes up right away. I'm not sure if this is caused by that drive having some power save feature of going to sleep when not in use, or perhaps it doesn't save the file listings, and has to do a search before showing the listing. But one thing that did change yesterday was that I plugged in a USB drive, which comes up immediately when I pull it up in Explorer, and TODAY, the E: drive seems to come up immediately too, which is strange, so perhaps there is some connection there too as well.
Anyway, I'm just curious re whether any might have some ideas as to what might explain all these symptoms. Right now, everything seems to be working, but I am very curious about what caused these symptoms prior to today.
